Choosing a path

It’s always better to have the plan of value creation. Planning help us to understand better what do we want and how to reach it. After making a plan we can even change our priorities and reconsider the way we can reach the goals. Planning organizes and disciplines us. But I don’t believe we can foresee everything. What seems important for us now can be changed in the nearest future.

If your job is programming and you are valued as a programmer it seems obvious that you should constantly improve your skills in programming. You should read professional literature, attend different IT courses, do extra job in programming. But… But is it the only way you can increase your value in programming? Programmers write programs to help other people to do their jobs better. If you write a program for designers you should know something about design and about designers. The better your knowledge about design the better chances to succeed. It is also better if you have some knowledge about marketing. It will help you to sell your program. We can’t acquire perfection in each field. What knowledge would be the most important in this case? I don’t believe we can predict it. Belief, hard work, intuition and good luck are what remain to us.

An excellent example is Steve Jobs business. In his famous speech “Connecting the dots” he tells how his activities which were not connected with business contributed to one of the greatest breaks through in the history of business and human progress. And Steve Jobs knows something about value creation :)

If we can’t predict what occupation will bring success to us isn’t it better to do what you like most of all?
